Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
Our wellbeing programs
The Resilience Project
A whole-school community approach has enabled The Resilience Project to be implemented successfully at Dudley Public School. By exploring concepts of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness through Emotional Literacy, students, staff and families are empowered in promoting personal wellbeing and positive mental health on a daily basis.
Kindergarten Buddy Program
Each year, students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to be buddies to our new Kindergarten students. They help them become familiar with routines and procedures and support them in their first year at school. Buddies are trained in Term 4 and participate in the Kindergarten Orientation program each year.
Peer Support Program
The Peer Support program is implemented across the school from Kindergarten to Year 6. Groups comprise of students across all grade levels who meet several times each term to take part in activities focused on personal development and cooperative learning. Students develop a sense of belonging and tolerance, build identity and self-esteem and celebrate differences.
Lunchtime Interest Groups
Students are invited to attend a variety of interest groups during lunchtimes that aim to provide alternative spaces for students to spend their time, whilst exploring extra-curricular subjects. These groups include Garden Club, Dance Groups, Art Club, Drama Club, Debating and Library and are a fun way for students to build their character and look after their wellbeing for positive mental health.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.
